2v2 meta

So quite often especially in lower elo these 2v2's kind of end up being just 2x 1v1's because the level of communication isn't really there yet for the players to work together too well. In this cases it's just more gold army focus, as you will be able to get more gold with the trade later on. Gameplay focus is usually more macro oriented (3tc's up early castle) and a bit more defensive play overall.

However the best way usually to play 2v2's would be to have the other person go for ranged units (like archers then xbow) and the other one to go cavalry (scouts into knights, or straight knights)
This would be the most optimal way of playing, then trying to combine armies (mostly the cavalry player would get to the xbows) and then raid together or clean the enemy armies together.

Best cavalry civ (franks probably the best but any scout+kt civ that has paladin works) and best archer civ (many options again; mayans, britons, ethiopians etc.) there are no real super combos for that basic cavalry+ranged combos.
